Now, at one point or another, most everyone has lived in a home or apartment with a kitchen they HATED. Too small, too dark, too dated, too…something.
Kitchens are often the heart of the home. In addition to food preparation, it’s where families hang out, do homework, pay bills, entertain and eat. That is why we lust after that perfect kitchen. Our perfect kitchen.
We probably all have a vision of our dream kitchen in mind. Maybe some of you have found it, and maybe some of you are still on the hunt. So I ask, what is your ideal kitchen style?

1) Galley
The galley kitchen layout has lost some of its popularity in recent years, often in favor of the L-shaped or U-shaped kitchen with an island. However, the galley kitchen can be one of the best uses of space, employing the best layout for cooking. Everything you need is within arms reach, and generally galley kitchens are great for storage, as they tend to have plenty of cabinet space.
2) U-Shaped Kitchen
The U-shaped kitchen can be the perfect showcase for the proverbial work triangle between the sink, the refrigerator, and the cooktop that is so important in kitchen design.
3) Island Kitchen
Very popular in contemporary kitchens, the island kitchen layout is an excellent choice for cooks that like to interact with friends or family while they work.
4) Peninsula Kitchen
A peninsula kitchen is simply a kitchen with an island that is anchored to a wall or line of cabinets. It may be used as a breakfast bar, seating area or just extra countertop and storage space. For example, in the photo below, the peninsula option saves space, allowing the counter to be bigger and better.
5) Single Wall Kitchen
If you live in a small home or apartment, then the single-wall plan may be the most viable kitchen layout option for you. For example, a lot was done with a little space in the photograph below. Great organization.
6) L-Shaped Kitchen
Alas, the L-Shaped kitchen, is by far the most popular layout these days. It’s most often seen with an island, so it’s perfect for entertaining, multiple-chefs, and making dinner while the kids sit at the island and do their homework. This layout has the most amount of variations by far and works with any style, whether your kitchen is modern, traditional, or somewhere in between.
