Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing my long-time colleague, Marie Gomer. In this blog, I’m going to share the highlights of that conversation, specifically the parts that are most beneficial to agents who are curious about how their brand image affects their business. Marie’s career story is a great example of someone who started with humble beginnings and grew her career by developing her personal brand.
About Marie Gomer

Marie Gomer is a Broker at Compass in Hoboken, NJ and has been in real estate for over 18 years. Her career began when she moved to New Jersey without knowing anyone in the Tri-State Area. It was then that she decided she wasn’t going to build her business “brick by brick” but rather “relationship by relationship”.
How focusing on her personal brand impacted her business

Marie was clear about the importance of her brand to her business and, ultimately, to her career. One of her first points was that no matter which amazing brokerage she worked for, she would always make sure her personal brand was recognizable. Clients are often unclear about the brokerage’s role, and at the end of the day your clients are your business, so you want to make sure they’re able to distinguish you from your brokerage. Marie said that goes for everything from your level of service to your personal logo design and marketing. People in her market recognize her logo and tell her about it when they see her. Similarly, she has a following on social media, where she’ll post content beyond her listings to engage her audience. As for marketing her listings, she pulls out all the stops there as well, so much so, that clients’ neighbors notice and inquire about her services.
Advice for Newer Agents

Marie had some excellent advice for new real estate agents, and I couldn’t resist sharing it here. First, she implores you to never put a paycheck before a client’s needs. Related, she says to be authentic, and the business will come. Lastly, go the extra mile by investing in your listing marketing (even if it is a smaller listing) because it’s not only better for the listing, but also for your personal brand. People notice the difference!
I really appreciated Marie joining me on my channel and sharing her story. To watch the whole interview, go to my Youtube video.
I hope this was as inspiring to you as it was to me! If you thought so, go ahead and share it with someone else who’d benefit from it. Also, comment below and share with us how your personal brand has shaped your career!
Cheers,
Lucy
