Trying to find affordable housing can be tricky anywhere. But finding affordable housing in New York City is a totally different ballgame. Scratch that, it’s not a ballgame, ballgames are fun. This is like The Hunger Games, only with more bedbugs and serial-killer roommates.
Ryan Nethery’s new, self-explanatory Tumblr, THE WORST ROOM, showcases profoundly ugly yet expensive spaces up for grabs on Craigslist.
Here a few highlights, or lowlights, depending on how you look at it.
This lovely room in Williamsburg, Brooklyn rents for $850.00 per month. But that’s not all! Used futon (and sheets) are included the Craigslist poster added. This must be what winning the lottery feels like.
Directly from Craigslist post “Looking for two roommates in Brooklyn. Top bunk is $500 per month, bottom bunk is $600.00 per month.” What exactly makes the bottom bunk more expensive? Look, there is sacrificing to live in the best city in the world and then there is this. Yikes.
This Washington Heights, Manhattan room for rent is actually the breakfast nook. But hey, not too shabby for $300.00. You sleep, eat, and do all the chin-ups you want. Talk about living the good life.
$725.00 room for rent, with kitchen. Kind of playing it fast and loose with the word “kitchen”, aren’t we?
Room in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Asking $1200.00 a month. Ah, yes, the depressing windowless bedroom to beat all other depressing windowless bedrooms. I’m home.
