My favorite thing about the close of another year is the best and worst lists. Best and worst movies, dresses, songs, what have you. I’m all over it. So now that it’s officially December and women no longer have to be upset about their mans’ mustaches, we can start rolling out our 2012 Best and Worst Home Decor Trends.
You see something you love, and then you see it again and again and again. Suddenly it’s everywhere — and before you know it, it’s old and tired and people are already starting to make fun of it. How do you adapt to home decor trends? Do you refuse to conform, or jump on every bandwagon. Most of us are probably somewhere in the middle. We like what we like and that’s all there is to it.
That said, what’s your verdict on these four 2012 home decor trends?
Trend 1: Chalkboard Paint
Love it or hate it? Chalkboard paint is popular thanks to its blend of sentiment, whimsy, and practicality. This year we’ve seen it painted on walls, furniture and appliances. Regardless of your opinion of this trend, chalkboard paint has certainly come a long way from the basic boards used in schools.
Trend 2: Keep Calm and Do Whatever
Love it or Hate it? The message and design is so easily applied it’s no wonder that it has found a niche in decor. companies haven been slapping it on everything from mugs, to tea towels, to tablecloths this year. Do you like this feel good mantra, or are you ready to keep calm and move on?
Trend 3: Lucite Furniture
Trend 4: Animal Print Rugs
Love it or Hate it? Animal print is a trend that I feel most people are pretty set in their ways about. Animal prints are a popular choice but can be a tough sell to many people. They’re wild and outlandish, and, as a result, many people are afraid that they can’t pull them off in their homes without looking tacky.
