After a long day we all want to come home to a place that feels peaceful — a place to recharge, restore and relax. It’s one thing to create a space that is visually beautiful, but it’s quite another to create a space that can make you feel calm and at peace with what’s going on around you.
This Lake Forest, Illinois home accomplishes both; it’s stunning and serene. The rooms are uncluttered, the color palette is soothing, the surrounding greenery makes the space feel like your own private hideaway. Plus, the property stats are pretty impressive. Five bedrooms, 5 baths, 2 fireplaces, a finished basement, nearly 10,000 square feet and 4 garage spaces. A girl could get used to this.
Enjoy these beautiful photos of a simple, yet impressive home. I feel more relaxed just looking at them.
Let’s start with the dramatic foyer that overlooks a sunken-in living room. I love the idea of walking into a home that is immediately calming. This sparse entryway is full of style – love the light and the unusual floors – but it is undeniably relaxing.
Taking a step back, the elegant living room is highlighted by a domed, backlit ceiling.
The living room also features soaring 18 foot ceilings. The elements in this space, like room structure, furniture arrangement, and color choice, provide a perfect place to take advantage of a little peace and quiet.
Kitchens are usually one of the busiest, messiest rooms in a house. Somehow this kitchen, with it’s green backsplash, fruitbowl, and windows, comes off as soothing. It’s a great example of a living space that’s both calm and full of character.
Dining rooms are sometimes fussy and over the top. But this dining space looks perfect for quiet dinners and intimate conversation. Then again, it also looks like a good table for a party. A relaxing party, but a party nonetheless.
As with dining rooms, family rooms are often so filled with people and animals and other stuff that they’re associated with anything but calm. However, the curved couch, centered fireplace, view, and natural light and overhead light make for easy relaxing.
No zen home is complete without a spa-like sanctuary. This calm bathroom is a pretty oasis. BONUS: This is all for the lady of the house as there is a companion bathroom just for him.
This room, with it’s comfortable bed, enormous windows, great wall color, and cool accessories is an excellent example of a bedroom that puts relaxation first.
You wouldn’t expect the backyard of this home to be anything less than tranquil, would you? Even five minutes out here would lower my blood pressure.
